Incubus is a powerful alternative rock band. They have strong music and lyrics that evoke emotion. The group Incubus is led by Brandon Boyd and has four other band members. They have an electric rock sound with some pop appeal. They normally write lyrics in an optimistic view. Their music evolves with every successful release. Incubus writes their own lyrics and like all great bands, started with playing at small gatherings. They toured with many famous bands and their publicity grew greatly. They have very touching lyrics with great sound. Incubus’ song “I Miss You” is dealing with love and has strong lyrics due to their choice of wording.
The song “I miss you” by Incubus is short yet very meaningful. It is about a guy who loves a girl and cherishes her. He finds it a gift to “see [her] when [he] wakes up”. To him, it is a dream to “know that [she] feels the same” about him. He can not explain what she does to him and how he really makes her feel, but he questions if he would be unreasonable to say he misses her. The man then seems to have been left but he still has the memories of her. He has her picture and the smell of her on his “empty pillow”. Although she has only been gone for ten days, “already [he’s] wasting away”. He is telling himself that he will see her again someday. All he wants is for her to know that he cares and misses her. The lyrics and meaning of the song relate to the theme love. The song strongly brings emotion to the listener. The song is short and does not include a chorus. The song does not include a chorus because it was not written for entertainment, but to prove something. He wanted to prove that he is sorry for what happened and that he loves and misses her. The song gets the point across and does not waste time with a lot of wording, just gets to the point of how he feels.

A Utopian dream gives you the thought of a beautiful and peaceful place. Also, the theme of the song is love and missing someone. To go along with the theme of the song, the mood is sadness and romance in a sense. The mood could also be separation because the man has been left and separated from his woman he loved. The tone also relates to the theme and mood. The tone is upsetting and remorseful because the way the song is sung, you get a sad and sorry feeling. “I Miss You” has many emotions and interpretations.
The song “I Miss You” is very direct with the meaning because the lyrics are so short and strong. The lyrics can be looked at in different ways, but still evoke emotion. Incubus’ songs are written by them with their own style. Their albums have become very popular in the alternative rock area. Incubus is a great and satisfying band. They evolve their music around what is successful. The four band members and lead vocalist Brandon Boyd are amazing and very optimistic, seeing they normally write lyrics in that view.
